CHAPTER 22

Giselle choked on her smoothie and rapidly patted her chest to make it go down the right path. Gabrielle hurriedly helped her and she finally swallowed it.

“You saw us?”

“I heard the car come in so I went to check what was happening by the window. That was a really steamy kiss. Is he your boyfriend?”

“No. He is the reason I’m wearing this cast”

“.......I’m lost. Explain please”

“Just promise not to tell mum and dad”

“Sure”

Giselle hesitated but Gabrielle’s earnest expression eventually persuaded her to tell her younger sister everything. Gabrielle was shocked when she heard it all, not even knowing how to feel.

“How can he say he loves you when he has caused you all this trouble? Why hasn’t he dropped dead yet? And why the hell did you kiss him?”

“Well, it was already complicated. I figured I could as well have some fun”

“Giselle, you know what mum and dad said about white boys? See how he almost made you lose your life! It’s dangerous”

“Relax Gaby, it’s not that serious”

“Giselle?! Can you hear yourself?!”

“I can. Gabrielle, how old am I?”

“What does that have to do with anything?”

“Answer the question”

“You’re 28. And so?”

“Am I a child? I know what I’m doing. If you directly refuse someone multiple times and he didn’t yield, you yield first. After giving in, he loses the sense of challenge and in the same vein, loses interest in you. I’m consciously giving in and managing his mentality. I haven’t been a professional psychologist for nothing after all”

“Sis?”

“Hmm?”

“That’s evil”

“It’s not”

“It is. What if you fall in love instead?”

“You win some, you lose some. I’ll get over it”

“No wonder everyone says you have no emotions. Just stay away from him”

“It’s not that simple. I don’t want this too but it’s the mafia. Even for our family, they’re unavoidable”

“Tch! So annoying”

Giselle smiled and pokes her sister’s puffed-up cheeks. Her sister was normally as prideful as her but ever since their family was thrown into disarray, the two had stocked together through thick and thin.

“So Gaby, What about you? Where’s your man?”

A frown instantly decorated her attractive face.

“Urgh, don’t even ask! The audacity on that man”

“Ooh, now I wanna know”

“Can you believe what he did? He said we should go on a date in Paris but bailed on me a day before because of some prior engagement. It didn’t bother me until someone sent me a picture of him proposing to someone else!”

“Oof! That sounds rough. How dare he?”

“I can’t believe I dated someone like that for six months! Urgh! I am so done with men”

“Don’t let Matthew and the rest hear that. They’ve set me up on a date with a girl before. It was so hard to escape”

“Noted. I am curious about how that went”

“Awkward to say the least. So, what are you going to do about your cheating ex? Castrate him? Murder him? We’ve got mafia connections now, better use them to the fullest”

“Giselle! Don’t joke about something like that. We’ll crash his wedding and then we castrate him”

“Hehehe. Lucky for us, Matthew has a handy set of pliers”

“Why does he have that and how do you know he has that?”

“Let’s just say, he’s been having some issues”

“Oi! What kind of issues are you talking about, you damn sly?!”

“Matthew? Gaby, you were on a call with Matthew?”

“Well, he just called and I picked. I put it on speakerphone”

“Young lady, care to explain the issues you were talking about?”

“In a bit. Care to explain why it sounds like you’re in a car?”

“Cos we are. We’ll be there in five. Gaby let us in then”

“Urgh! Is Ava there?”

“No. She’s at home with Timothy”

“Okay. You’ve been granted access. Hold on a minute. You said 'we'”

“Yeah. Dev and Annie are here”

“Access denied”

“I dare you not to open that door, Giselle. Just attempt it” A female voice threatened from Gabrielle’s phone.

“My house, my rules”

“My knife, your life” Annie simply replied.

“Hang up that phone. Negotiations with terrorists are against the national constitution”

“Only when I shove my knife up your ass can it be considered terrorism”

“Prevention is better than cure after all”

“I dare you to say that to my face”

The call hung up and Giselle swore. Five minutes later, a car pulled up in their driveway.
