CHAPTER 25

Dev froze like a deer in headlights. He also forgot the fact that he had called her by her full name ever since she was kidnapped. It just came naturally.

“Nothing. Can’t I just call you by your nickname? I’m switching back to it”

“Devon, I’m fine. I have a cast on now and that’s not awfully convincing but I truly am fine. You don’t believe me after all this time?”

“Giselle, it’s hard to say yes and that is saddening”

“Urgh! You two are a bunch of depressing best friends. Get over it” Annie complained. Giselle smirked.

“You’re just jealous because you can’t enter our bubble. Go back to the past and grow up with us, shortbread”

“You’re not awfully tall Giselle. You can’t complain”

“I’m taller than you Annie. That’s enough”

“Someone hold me back! I’m about to hit this woman so hard, she’ll be sent straight to God!”

“Calm down Annie. She’s just joking” Dev said chuckling. Matthew snickered and opened a bag of chips, hoping to watch a show. Gabrielle laughed in the background. Giselle’s smirk widened. The gang was finally back to normal.

When morning came, her friends left, and her sister left for work too, leaving only her in the house. It was a bit lonely so she went back to bed. She was rudely awoken not too long after hitting the bed by the honk of a car. She dragged herself out of bed and went out to see the black Benz in the driveway. The driver stood awkwardly by the car, deliberating whether to come in or not.

“Adam?”

“Good morning Giselle. They were done with the car yesterday so I decided to bring it today”

“Cool. Do you wanna, err, come in?”

“I’d love to but no, not today. Today’s my first appointment with Dr. Monroe. I’ll talk to him for you so you don’t need to worry. I am really sorry about what happened yesterday. You just wait till your leg heals. I’ll compensate you and your staff for the inconvenience”

“I have insurance and you guys won’t be charged for arson anyway”

Adam winced. She was right.

“Now that you drove here, how are you going to get to Dr. Monroe’s? I remember clearly that is far from here”

“No need to worry about that. My cousin arrived in the country yesterday and she offered to drive me. She said she needed to get a domestic doctor too”

“Ah, good for you. I’ll be going in now. Have a nice day”

“Yeah you too”

Adam awkwardly waved and left his hand stupidly hanging after she had entered. He stared at her door for a long time before a car horn yanked him out of his daze.

“Adam? Why are you standing there like an idiot? I thought I got the wrong place but damn am I afraid to be associated with an idiot like you” a clear-cut female’s voice sounded from the white Benz parked by the side of the road. Adam rolled his eyes and opened the passenger door.

“Just shut up and drive”

“You won’t tell me why our couple car is parked in another person’s driveway?”

“Don’t say shit like a couple cars. Who’d want to be a couple with a lunatic like you?”

“You hurt me, Adam”

“Stop fishing for details and drive you damn woman”

“Eeeh, so you won’t tell me?”

“Urgh! Why should I?”

“I’m your favorite cousin”

“When did I say you were my favorite cousin?”

“So it’s my brother then?”

“Hell no! Fine, I'll talk. You know the girl I used to like back in uni?”

“The one you were always raving about? Yeah, I remember her. What’s up?”

“I got to meet her a few days back and I’m trying to get her to go out with me. Unfortunately, Adrien blew up her clinic and she busted her leg when we were in a car chase with his agents”

“Damn! That sounds rough! I can understand why you gave your Benz away”

“Yeah, I really like her Catherine”

“Good for you then. So we’re going to the outskirts, right? Set the GPS”

“Yes ma’am”
