CHAPTER 26
Two months later, Giselle’s leg was relatively healed. She made sure to compensate her staff, refer her patients to other competent doctors and her insurance company. She also talked to Samuel Denver and got a more favorable location for her clinic. Her plan of distancing herself from the Denvers flew out the window as it was located very close to one of their subsidiaries.
Giselle had another problem to settle. On a misty Friday morning, Giselle drove her recently acquired Benz to an estate where only the truly affluent lived. She drove in and parked at the security office of a particular mansion. She rolled down the window and greeted the guard.
“Are my parents home?”
“ Yes. Miss Gabrielle is also home. The madam asked me to give you a message”
“Just hold on for one second”
She rolled the window back up and released a silent scream of agony. It was an exaggerated action that made the guard and the rest look at her weirdly. She rolled it back down and gave them a sweet smile.
“What did she say?”
“Er, she said to come straight to her study when you arrive”
“Thank you. Open the gate please”
She drove in and parked in the huge garage. She locked the car and stared at her father’s antique car collection. Adam’s garage filled with limited edition sports cars came to mind.
“Guess men are all the same in hoarding cars. Well, let’s go meet mumzilla”
She entered the mansion and made her way for the stairs. She had always hated how quiet it was and always snuck out when she was younger to play with Dev with Gabrielle. She smiled at the fond memories. Her smile left her face when she arrived in front of her mother’s study. She took a deep breath and knocked.
“Come in” an older woman’s voice echoed from within. She opened the door and locked it behind her.
“Good morning mum”
“Giselle, you’re here. Good morning. Sit there and wait for me to finish”
“Yes ma’am”
Giselle went and obediently sat in the chair. Her mother’s office was just like she remembered it. It was filled with books, files, a new leather couch, and was always quiet. There was nothing interesting about the place and she avoided it like the plague.
Her parents were not always wealthy. They migrated from Europe when they had just gotten married to North America with their savings. After working for a few years, when Giselle was three and her sister was just one, their father entered into the crude oil industry with his old friend and current partner, Jonathan Pierce, Devon’s father.
They were good businessmen and soon struck it big, making their company one of the largest in the world and comparable to the big ones in the world by the time she had turned twelve. Her father and his friend were frankly geniuses, bringing their company to even higher heights. They eventually got into other industries and expanded their company into a household brand name.
Evelyn Cheadle, her mother, supported her father till she retired when Giselle was 20 and started a school. She had more than ten branches in various states and supported impoverished homes as much as she could. She was an amazing awe-inspiring woman but for her two children, she was the most strict woman on earth.
Evelyn had wanted Giselle to take over the family business but she refused. Giselle in turn forced Evelyn to do an IVF when she was 40 and that’s when they had their last-born boy, Joshua after so many tries.
Now that she was 50, she was on her way to training the boy to be the next heir. It didn't really matter if he wanted to do it or not, he was born for that purpose. Giselle felt guilty and tried to rectify her mistake by trying to take the boy away but Giselle had apparently forgotten that she got her stubbornness from her mother.
“Giselle”
“Yes ma’am?”
“What happened?”
Giselle paused. She was asking about the clinic.
“An equipment malfunction”
“Don’t lie to me, young lady. I know it was blown up”
“With all due respect, why did you ask then? How am I supposed to explain something I don’t even understand. A bomb was planted in my clinic and blew it up. Both I and my staff are safe. We’re working on relocating and rebuilding a bigger structure. Is there anything else you want to know?”
“Don’t be rude! I was just worried about you”
“Mum, I’m fine. I sorted out everything and I don’t need you or dad’s help”
“Giselle Noelle Cheadle! Do not speak to me in that tone”
“I’m sorry. What is it you want?”
“I was just worried about you”
