CHAPTER 28
The supermarket wasn’t too far from her house but she knew how the shopping frenzy could get to her siblings. She brought out her black car which she rarely used unless her siblings were around and entered the supermarket.
Gabrielle took one cart while Giselle took another as they started their shopping. Giselle just moved forward like a machine as Joshua scanned the shelves for what interested him. She occasionally picked food items when she saw them and a few snacks. She also picked a carton of wine and other drinks.
While she was picking out some fruits, she realized Joshua wasn’t with her anymore. She panicked, searching around for him. The supermarket was fairly big and it was going to take him a while to find him. She brought out her phone and called Gabrielle.
“Hey, is Jay with you?”
“Nope. you lost him?”
“He must’ve walked off when I wasn’t looking. Help me search for him”
“Got it”
Giselle managed to calm down and went to the toy aisle to find him first. She searched several times but didn’t find him there. She searched for the isles closer to that and she still couldn’t find him.
“Jay? Joshua, where are you?”
One of the workers saw how frantic she was and asked what the matter was.
“I’m looking for my little boy. He’s about 10, black, he looks a lot like me and he was wearing a blue shirt and black shorts with dark blue converse”
“Please calm down ma’am. We’ll make a PA announcement so we can find him faster”
“Please do”
“What is his name?”
“Joshua Cheadle”
Gabrielle and Giselle met up in the middle of the supermarket but they still didn’t find him. The two sisters were on the verge of panic as an hour had passed and they still hadn't found him, even with the PA announcement. They had to abandon their shopping and go out of the supermarket to look for him.
When they got outside, they saw their brother leaning on the side of the Benz, talking and laughing with a man they had never seen before. After heaving a sigh in relief, they walked towards the duo to understand what was going on.
“Jay, where were you? When did you leave the supermarket?” Giselle questioned.
“I felt a little uncomfortable so I started breathing funny. This man here saw me at the toy section and brought me here after I told him it was my sister’s car”
“Breathing funny? Is this your first time, Jay?”
“No”
“Has mum and dad ever taken you to the hospital?”
“They were supposed to but they got busy. We all forgot eventually”
Giselle felt a thread of her sanity snap. She took a deep breath and turned to the man who helped Joshua. He looked like a nice gentleman and he was also black. He smiled amicably and stretched his hand forward.
“Hi, my name is Kyle. I am a primary healthcare provider and I noticed your brother’s strange behavior. The atmosphere in the supermarket was stuffy so I brought him out for some fresh air. I hope I didn’t cause any trouble”
Giselle took his hand and gave him a gentle smile in return.
“Not at all. Thank you for taking care of my little brother. If there was anything I could do to repay you, please do tell me”
“No, nothing like that. I was just doing what I had to do. It seems like my job here is done so here’s where I say goodbye to you beautiful ladies and you too, Jay”
“Bye Kyle”
The three of them waved as the man walked back into the supermarket.
“Gabrielle, have anything to tell me?” Giselle asked with a smile that screamed danger. Gabrielle gulped and stepped back.
“I swear I didn’t know anything about this either”
“Jay? Is your big sister Gaby right?”
“Yeah”
“I see. You’re skipping school tomorrow and we’re going to the hospital. Gaby, go into the supermarket now and buy all the things we need. Here’s my card. Hurry up”
“Yes”
Gabrielle went inside the supermarket to buy the things they put aside while Giselle called her doctor. She asked for a pediatric recommendation and booked an appointment almost immediately.
Gabrielle came out of the supermarket with two shopping carts and they loaded the car with what she had bought. In the end, it was a tight fit. That didn’t matter to the still annoyed Giselle as she drove back home. They arranged everything, had dinner, and went to bed.
