CHAPTER 33
After dropping Joshua off in school and talking to his teacher about his condition, she headed over to the construction site. Due to the input of the infamous Samuel Denver, it had been going quickly and smoothly. In two more months, it would be completed.
When she arrived, she met Matthew at the gate. Quite surprised that he wasn’t going in, she poked him.
“Argh! Giselle!”
“Why so surprised? And why are you standing here like you’re paparazzi?”
“I was thinking! And this would be the last time I warn you not to poke me like that”
“My bad. I’ll remember not to forget next time”
“Ahh whatever, it’s never straightforward with you”
“So, what are you doing here?”
“Mr. Denver assigned one of his family members to watch over the construction. He says it’s his niece”
“I thought Amelia was watching over the construction?”
“He said she was busy. The new person came over yesterday. There is one problem though”
“What is it?”
Matthew gave Giselle a pensive probing look. She really looked like she knew nothing about the change in supervisors. He sighed deeply and told her.
“Her name is Catherine Denver. Does that name ring a bell?”
“Catherine……..Denver?”
“Yes”
Matthew knew about Giselle being abducted. He also knew it had something to do with a girl she bullied in middle school. He knew firsthand that Giselle could be manipulative and she does it in a way that it’s completely natural.
“Maybe it’s not the same person. The name and surname are quite common. It could be another person”
“Giselle, you and I both know coincidences like these are rare. This is not a coincidence”
“Let’s try to keep an open mind Matthew”
“I’m not saying it could be her. I’m saying it’s her. Do you want to face this or would you just wait till the construction is done?”
Giselle didn’t answer. In a split second, she swore loudly and punched the gate. Both Matthew and Ava, who was coming to the gate from inside, were startled by the loud rattling.
“Giselle, what the hell? Why would you do that?” Matthew loudly exclaimed and grabbed her hand. As expected, it was bruised. Giselle gave the damaged hand a brief look and retracted it from Matthew’s hold.
“Why would you do something like that? You want to wreck the new place yourself? Come to think of it, it was because of you that the last place blew up” Ava complained, crossing her arms.
Giselle raised her face and stared at Ava. the latter shivered. She didn’t know what it was but the sheer bloodlust emitted from Giselle's eyes froze her in place. She just shivered in fear as Giselle stared like a lifeless evil doll.
“The next time you speak to me in that way, I would make sure you don’t talk for two weeks, got it, Ava?”
“W-what?”
“Matthew, I’m leaving”
“Why? Just stay here and fix it”
“If you want me to completely rearrange her face and also disfigure your beloved wife’s face in the process, you’re free to let me in. I’m going home”
“Giselle……”
She walked away without looking back, driving off. Ava walked up to Matthew and hit him in the shoulder, annoyed.
“You don’t even care about me. She threatened me and you’re worried about her”
“How many times has she warned you not to annoy her? She might think I don’t know but Giselle’s a psychopath. She also has a black belt in karate. Do you still want to try her, knowing that?”
“What? It’s completely illegal to be a doctor with her condition”
“So? You want to report her? It’s like you’re underestimating Giselle. Everyone that has ever crossed her has regretted it. I annoyed her one time by pestering her and I got this scar here, the one on my abdomen”
“You said that was a freak accident!”
“It was! Even I couldn’t believe what happened”
“Do something about her? What if she is harming our patients?”
“What is Giselle’s success rate?”
“What does that have to do with anything?”
“Come on Ava, you’re smarter than this. Answer the question”
“About 79 percent of her patients live completely normal lives. So what?”
“Now tell me, for such a genius like her, who is willing to let her go out of our circle? Look, I know you’re jealous of Giselle but you have to accept two things. One, she and I would never be an item. Two, she is untouchable. Don’t do anything stupid. I’m still in love with you after all”
“Hmph! Sweet talker”
Matthew grinned and kissed her. She let go of the matter and pulled him into the site.
Matthew was much smarter than he was given credit for. Giselle was the daughter of such a wealthy and powerful person, yet she was kidnapped two times. In A city, there are a few people many people would rather avoid, including those of the underworld. The Cheadle family and the Denver family were good examples of those.
So, if someone were to kidnap a Cheadle, they had to be equally powerful. He was really surprised when he heard Giselle talking about Adam. He knew she was aware of those dynamics but if she refused to speak about it, then so be it.
But it seemed like the Denvers had some special obsession with Giselle because she just couldn’t free herself from them even if she tried. Truly, it was a matchup made like something from a novel. If it were him in that situation, just how would he come out unscathed?
It was a question worth pondering.
For now, he would just observe and see how it would go. Little did he know, it was just a prelude to disaster, the calm before the storm.
While she drove home, she received a text from Adam. He told her his cousin didn’t need a domestic doctor again as she had found one. She replied okay and dropped the matter.
