CHAPTER 38
“How could you have known? You’re quite the narrow-minded person Ava. I’ve always known that about you. Despite that, I still love you. Giselle warned me about you but I never listened to her. I believed you were a good person despite your flaws. I was right”
“Oh Matthew…..”
The two hugged each other and passionately made out on the table. Giselle, who came to ask what had happened with Catherine had to turn around and go home to wash her eyes with bleach seeing that.
Giselle rarely wore revealing clothes. Her body was always covered up, even in her house. Everyone questioned it but no one dared to tell her to change it. If there was one thing she was defensive about, it was revealing her body.
On her shoulder, there was a long scar that was stitched up. It looked quite ugly, running from her collarbone to her back. There was one on her thighs, one on her back and another one on her breast. The last one was made by Catherine. She tried to make them go away but the injuries only healed. Her skin was the same.
“So, how’d it go with Catherine?”
“It went south real fast”
“Yikes! Was she that bad?”
“Horrible”
“Age really messes you up. She used to be an angel. I liked her back then”
“Now you hate her?”
“I don’t. I just couldn’t care less”
Matthew chuckled. He was both relieved and worried but he knew she could handle herself.
On the day he got bodied by Giselle, he was stalking her. She was quite an interesting person if someone got to know her. It was just, Matthew was greedy. He wanted to know more and so, he stalked her home one day.
One thing he noticed was that she had extremely sharp senses. He was caught faster than he expected and she proceeded to beat him up without looking at his face. He found out then about her having a black belt in Karate.
She eventually apologized about beating him up and invited him to treat his injuries. From there, they became really good friends. No one else knew except those closer to them. He also met Dev and Annie, the sweetest couple on the planet. They had been dating from high school and had not separated ever since they met.
It was impossible not to notice the feelings Giselle had for Dev especially after they had spent so much time together but it was like the four of them made a non verbal agreement to never speak of it, even when they argued.
“Giselle?”
“Hmm?”
“How are you so strong? You’ve been hurt so many times and you’re still going strong. How?”
“I try not to think about it. I love my life right now and I just want to protect my family. It’s nothing special”
“Giselle, as your friend, I want to protect you”
“Matthew, as your friend, I want to remind you that you have a wife and kid. Getting mixed up with me is dangerous. I don’t want you hurt. Besides, Ava would murder me”
“Do you hate her?”
“No, of course not. I pity her, that’s all. She doesn’t know about your stalkerish tendencies and the fact that you didn’t chase her because you were afraid you would hurt her. She thinks she’s obsessed with you but you and I both know it’s the opposite”
“Shh! That’s our secret”
“She’ll find out soon. I gotta go, I need to make dinner”
“Alright. Good night”
“Night”
Matthew ended the call with mixed feelings. He didn’t know if he should’ve told Devon about Catherine. Since she was back, there was a possibility they would meet. He eventually dropped the thought, hoping Giselle would tell Devon on her own.
“Hey Devon, did you get the bleach I asked for? Hi Annie”
“Hey. I got it but why would you ask me to buy that?”
“It’s hard to get holy water. I saw Matthew and Ava making out. I need to purify my eyes”
“That must’ve been a terrible experience. Here, let me help you”
“No thanks Annie. You would never miss a chance to accidentally kill me”
“Why would you say that? I’m just trying to be a good friend”
“Yeah sure. I haven’t forgotten what you said the last time you came here”
“And here I was trying to be a nice friend. I should just beat you up”
“You know babe, I don’t know how you would beat someone who has a black belt in karate”
“Shut up Dev!”
Giselle and Dev cackled, running away as Annie tried to hit them. Gabrielle saw this and shook her head, judging them.
“Ooh, are you guys playing hide and seek? Can I join?”
“You too, jay? Why are the both of you judging us?” Dev complained.
“Well, I talked according to your present IQ age, 5”
“How is this boy so mean? My poor heart, it’s broken”
“There there Dev. At least you’re five” Jay consoled.
Giselle fell on the couch laughing, giving Joshua a hi-five.
“So, why’d you call me here?” Dev asked after settling down.
“We’re all here, good. You know that guy who’s been going around killing rich and powerful people? Well, he’s in A city”
“And you know that because?” Annie suspiciously asked.
“I’m a criminal psychologist. He’s my new patient”
“That’s why you had me get them out of the country. Seriously, you need to tell me these things earlier. I had a hard time convincing them” Dev complained.
“They’re out now and that’s the most important thing. Right now, we have to focus on making sure his attention is not on us until he’s caught. I want all of you to be careful, alright?”
“Yes ma’am”
