CHAPTER 39

The estate where the wealthy lived was particularly easy to enter if one had the right set of skills and connections. Entering the houses was much more difficult.

A nondescript van drove up to the gate of the Cheadle residence. The driver rolled down the glass to reveal a middle-aged man.

“G’mornin officer”

His voice had a southern drawl and he looked harmless.

“Good morning. Who are you and why are you here?”

“I’m Jack and I have a delivery for a Mr. Cheadle. Is he in?”

The head guard didn’t answer. He called the others to check the van and held the man at that point till they were done.

“He’s clean sir!” they reported and went back to their posts.

“Unfortunately sir, Mr. Cheadle is on a business trip and we’ve been ordered not to let anyone in till he returns”

“Ahh, that’s a real shame. It was nice meeting you good officers but I should head back now. Works busy this time of year. See you later”

The van drove back out of the estate. The head guard sent a message to Giselle, telling him what had happened. She told him to keep up the good work and faced the patient before her. He was also putting down his phone.

“Dr. Cheadle, you’re a cautious woman”

“That’s high praise. I’m just someone who likes to think ahead”

Oscar stared at her and she stared back.

“You were right about the rich and powerful being untouchable. If I get too close, I’m almost caught. I'm also being stalked right now. I can’t walk freely out of my house. I thought psychologists abided to Patient Information Confidentiality”

“You’re not in jail right now, are you? Then you’re fine”

“I could sue you”

“By all means, please go report me to the police. I’d get a fine, you’d get killed. Don’t worry, I’ll use the fine to pay for your funeral and publish your legacy”

“Why so touchy Dr. Cheadle?”

“I know the real reason you’re here. You asked Dr. Andrew to refer you to me because I’m your next target, aren’t I?”

Oscar chuckled deeply, tapping the table.

“Don’t flatter yourself. You’re just a psychologist”

“Current Head of the human affairs department worldwide in my father’s company. But you already knew that, didn’t you?”

“.......So, you are sharp. She warned me but I didn’t listen. I was wrong to underestimate you”

“She? Don’t tell me she’s the one I’m thinking about?”

“Yes, it’s her. She’s the one that brought me into A city. This place is notoriously hard to enter”

Oscar leaned forward and knitted his fingers together.

“She’s organized a little game for the three of us. If you win, I end up in jail and your family safe. If you don’t, the consequences are obvious. She also wants Devon and your company. Please think deeply about this. You can’t refuse”

Oscar turned to walk out but discovered the door was locked. He turned to see Giselle giving a polite smile.

“Please sit down Mr. Lorde, our session is not finished yet”

“If you know what is good for you, you’d let me out this instant”

“Are you sure you want to threaten me? Please, have a seat, Mr. Lorde. The doors have been locked from outside to give us absolute privacy. When we’re done, I’ll ask them to open it so you can leave”

“What do you plan to do by keeping me locked in here?”

“I just want to know who you are. The real Oscar Lorde was the one who went to my house. It’s not nice to play on someone’s intelligence, you know? So, who are you?”

“I’m surprised. Most people find it hard to tell the difference between me and the person I’m imitating. You’re on a different level”

“You flatter me. You must be one of the infamous assassins I’ve heard of who can change their looks and voices at will”

“As expected from a Cheadle”

‘Oscar’ threw a sharp object from his pocket at Giselle at a very high speed but before it could reach her, it was shot down by a sniper bullet. Giselle didn’t shake from beginning to end.

“When it comes to taking precautions, you’ll never find me lacking” she simply commented.

“Mr. Lorde was quite sure I couldn’t handle him. I’ve been kidnapped four times in my lifetime by a group of highly skilled people. Did you really think I wouldn't take precautions? What kind of idiot do you think I am? Now, have a seat, I have some questions for you”

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

Playing on someone's intelligence is just rude, am I right?
