CHAPTER 44

“For how long?! For how long must she interfere with my family and my plans?! I swear I would kill you, Giselle! I would murder you with my own two hands! Arghhh!” Catherine screamed and stormed out of the room.

Meanwhile, on the other side of town, a certain someone was on the receiving end of fierce scoldings from every corner.

“Why the hell were you out late? Where did you even go?” Gabrielle asked furiously, shaking her vigorously.

“Calm down Gaby. I just went to resolve an important problem. It should be fine by now”

“Be fine? What do you mean? And what kind of problem could not be resolved with a simple phone call? Don’t you know it’s dangerous outside?”

“The shootings and stuff would die back down by tonight. We should be back to our normal lives by next week. So, relax”

“What did you do, Giselle?”

“I went out to honor a promise I made. As you can see, I’m fine. Is there any snack left? I need something to munch on”

Like that, Giselle passed by a gobsmacked Gabrielle. A problem that even the government couldn’t solve, was simply taken care of by her sister who would on a normal day, not give a shit about what was going on. What was happening?

After Giselle found a suitable snack, she leaned on the couch and started watching a show while eating. Joshua ran out of the room with his phone in hand.

“Gaby, dad’s asking for you. Oh, Gigi, you’re back”

“Hey, Jay. Pass me the phone”

“Okay”

“Hello dad”

“Giselle? What’s happening over there?”

“Well, there’s nothing but chaos here so I hope you enjoy your vacation over there”

“What do you mean? As soon as you are in the clear, I want you to bring your siblings over here immediately. Ask Dev to come with his too”

“Dad, Relax. We won’t be able to get a flight anyway. We’ve been okay for the past few days and we’ll still be okay till this blows over. This, I promise you”

“Giselle, I’m not asking”

“Well, I’m sorry to refuse. Gaby, here, dad was asking for you”

After handing the phone over to Gabrielle, Giselle entered her room and retired for the night.

True to what she said, over the course of the week, the shootings died down and life began to return to normal. Giselle made a few more calls, actively involving the government and the wealthy so the problem could be resolved quickly.

It was at that time that Gabrielle and Joshua knew the extent of their sister’s capabilities and how easy it was for her to sway someone’s opinions to get them on her side. There were no ripples in her voice nor changes in her expression as she took care of everything.

“Gigi, you’re honestly so amazing” Joshua praises as soon as she dropped the call with the mayor.

“Really?” She asked with a small smile, petting his head.

“Yeah! I want to be like you when I grow up. So, tell me, what’s your secret?”

“My secret, eh? I’m not sure I have one. I’m just the kind of person that would protect my family at all costs”

“Wow, so cool” he replied with sparkling eyes.

If only the young, innocent Joshua had known the implications of her words, he wouldn’t have thought it cool. Their sister held the sky for them and made sure they enjoyed the good life.

Just two days after that, she received a phone call that made her whole body shake. That day, she rushed out of the house and the Cheadle siblings never saw their sister again.

At the lionheart residence, there was a mail delivery. The delivery man was quite scared with the menacing aura emanating from the countless grunts that surrounded the house but was relieved when a gentle-looking young girl received the letter from him.

“This mail is for Mr. Adam Denver. Is that your father?”

“No, he’s my brother. Ooh, it’s a letter from Giselle. Brother would be so pleased. Thank you, Mr. Mailman”

“No, it’s nothing but my job. Have a lovely day miss”

The mailman left a blushing mess, missing the countless guards that ran towards the gate and the young girl that was there.

“Young Miss! Please come back! Lady Amelia would have our heads if she knew we let you wander to the gate”

Ari lifted the letter and smiled innocently at them.
